Jupiter in Cancer (Part 2)
Slow start to Jupiter in Cancer, presence of a humbling Saturn, warning from a hexagram
This is a second part of a two-part series on Jupiter in Cancer. Here is the first part where I talked about Mars in Cancer, the sweet spot for exaltation and fertility and some lunar considerations, ICYMI:
Now, on with it…
First Gestation, Then Rebirth
If we look for Jupiter in the sky now, we won't find it. That is because right now Jupiter is within 15° the Sun (under the beams as of the date of this post).
Here are some important dates of this part of the cycle:
Jun 3 - Jupiter entered the beams of the Sun
June 9 - Jupiter ingress into Cancer
June 24 - Jupiter Cazimi at 3° Cancer (i.e. conjoined the Sun as it catches up with Jupiter)
July 14/15 - Jupiter escapes from under the beams of the Sun (becoming a morning star)
This renders a slower start for Jupiter to bestow its blessings with this ingress in an obvious way. A transmutation of beliefs and visions first.
After transitioning from Gemini to Cancer, we may be throwing what we learned through experimentation into a fiery kiln to forge a new vision, a new direction. Turning the richness of our experiences into something we can actually offer to others, something that can nurture others.
As Jupiter reaches to the Underworld during this process, we are replenishing, revitalizing and fertilizing the soils that will receive what we are going to plant. To foster growth, first foster the invisible network of support.
Just like so many processes in nature, this must happen out of sight, concealed from the outside world. So let's be patient.
Along this process, Saturn is overseeing the whole process from Aries.
Under the Thumbs of Saturn
But why does it feel like less flowing, more like a grinding sacrifice? Saturn is weighing over Jupiter from the first degree of Aries as Jupiter is under the beams. Saturn as the ambassador of slowness, hard work and diligence, reveals that the world is not as fantastical and free of limitations as one wishes.
Aries is the place where Saturn is fallen, which brings in a humbling image: as the old one tries to tame the fiery youthfulness, they realize that old tricks won't work anymore.
Saturn in superior square over Jupiter is one of the stages of breaking away from controlling factors while it is still present. Like pushing against a wall, resistance is still there, but with some visible progress and breakthroughs.
The tension is there, the oppression is there. But life still prevails.
This aspect is going to be exact on Jun 15.
Hexagram 55: A Warning for Excessive Opulence

I have been practicing I Ching when myself and my friends are looking for more concrete advice. The Oracle has spoken so loudly through it that I decided to include here a hexagram I casted. I find this one so descriptive of the nature of an exalted planet, especially fitting to an exalted Jupiter.
According to Benebell Wen's I Ching, the Oracle, Hexagram 55 (䷶ - Feng 豐 Opulence) is an image of the king attaining abundance and being free of worries. “Prosperity and fortune at the noon hour (…) like the sun at he highest point in the sky.” (Such is the position of the Sun's exaltation in the Thema Mundi.)
Exalted planets are those that reached the top of the wheel, standing above the rest, lifted to the highest point in their cycle. “Fullness for all.”
But what goes up, must come down. “Abundance soon becomes opulence. When abundance becomes opulence, the king will fall.”
And here is what I think is an excellent advice to keep in mind:
“To know when you have enough is to be immune from disgrace. (…) Embrace the tides of change, come what may. Enjoy the moment of power and prestige while it lasts.”
A Closing Note
Abundance is not built in one day. Although we are living in a world that is far from ideal, this can still be an ideal place we can choose to expand and extend our support — to others and to ourselves.
Some questions to meditate on along this year:
What do I consider my family, my clan, my community?
Which “cells” of my personal life am I reorganizing that will allow me to expand the structure of my life?
Where in life do I see pressure coming in? And how can I thrive under the existing limitations? (A pot can bound the roots of a plant, but it is also a vessel that allows the plant to thrive in unexpected places.)
Which part of myself is “exhausted soil” that needs replenishing?
How can supporting myself be essential to supporting others?
That is all for now, folks! May Jupiter in Cancer bring abundance, hope, care and support to you and to this world!
With love,
Raimundo
